Reigning Strictly champion Kevin Clifton looks back on the thrill of competing in his early dancing days
This picture of my sister Joanne and me takes me right back to the fun times we had dancing together as children. Our mum and dad were four times British Latin American champions, and they then started a dance school in Grimsby, so Joanne and I grew up watching them teach. Aged four I was already joining in at the back, so they put me into a junior dance class. Joanne started a year later.
Dancing was part of the normal daily routine. I got up, had breakfast, went to school, came home and went straight off to freestyle, Latin and ballroom classes.
We were very much a dancing family – my nan was the quickstep champion of Hemel Hempstead. Mum and Dad taught us to dance but eventually sent us to another coach, so we wouldn’t talk back!
