Your clients will take a stylish step back in time when they flaunt these retro haircuts. Harshitha Prabhakar revisits some forever favourites
The first thing you notice on a man is a good haircut, styled right. When mainstream haircuts make your clients part of the herd, how do you make them stand out? You look for inspiration in vintage styles that have stood the test of time.
There are many reasons why retro hairstyles are gaining popularity these days. Contemporary styles can be quite estranging and far from basic elegance. Michel Baltazar, Creative Director, Training and Education, Biguine Academy, says, “I think in an era such as ours, where everything is industrialised and everything is disposable, we become nostalgic and our minds rewind, and we dream about the past. We withdraw back to the basics of clothing, decoration and design.”
Retro hairstyles are simple, with refined style, and practical. They allow a lot of room to be creative and build your own style, however, keep in mind the face shape, features and the lifestyle of your client. Saddam Husain, hair and beard stylist at men’s hair salon Truefitt and Hill, says, “The height of a person matters along with the thickness of hair and if he has a streamlined face or a more filled one. You have to assess the growth pattern of his hair, his balding patterns and his style preferences. If he maintains a beard, we have to cut his hair in a way that complements the beard. Some 10-15 years ago, it was the hairstylist who suggested styles for a client based on his evaluation of the client's features. Nowadays, clients are well-exposed to styles and trends, and the hairstylist has to interpret the needs of the client.”
So, go ahead and give the old classics a spin with our list of top retro-modern hairstyles that can make your client stand out.
