Duck Season

At the end of the 2015-16 season, the Anaheim Ducks found themselves in the position of having two great goaltenders in the lineup and ultimately, one of them would need to be handed the starting role. On one side, there was Frederik Andersen, who put together a respectable total of 35 wins and took the club deep into the playoffs before falling to the San Jose Sharks in the Western Conference Final. Impressive credentials for sure, but he was being pushed by a younger talent in John Gibson, who went 13-8-0 and finished seventh in voting for both the Vezina Trophy and the Calder Trophy.

Together, the pair ensured that the Ducks had the best defensive record in the NHL and they took home the Jennings Trophy. With Andersen being a potential restricted free agent, he was shipped off to the Toronto Maple Leafs for a pair of draft picks. Strangely enough, the Leafs later sent goalie Jonathan Bernier to Anaheim for a conditional pick.
