In the 24 hours ending at 8.30am, there was 107.8mm of rain. The rain continued till noon, following which it subsided. The IMD downgraded Sunday’s red alert to orange, indicating a heavy rain spell for the city, and not extremely heavy, as was forecast earlier.
Weathermen said that rain was likely to continue till Wednesday. Shubangi Bhutto, the scientist, IMD Mumbai, said that with the formation of a low-pressure area over the north Bay of Bengal and its neighbourhood and the strengthening of westerly winds, an active rainfall spell is expected over the Konkan and the adjoining ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra for four to five days.
