Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari on Thursday wrote to the Election Commission of India requesting to hold elections to the nine vacant seats of the state Legislative Council “at the earliest”. The move came close on the heels of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s phone call to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during which he reportedly raised the issue of Koshyari sitting on the state cabinet’s recommendation to the governor to nominate the CM to the Council from his quota.
