Argyle set sights on transfer targets as window opens

PLYMOUTH Argyle have drawn up their list of targets for the January transfer window and now it is a case of seeing which ones they can bring to Home Park.

Manager Steven Schumacher has confirmed there is some money left in the budget from the summer to make additions to the Pilgrims’ squad.

He also stressed any new arrivals will not be ‘just to add numbers’ but to bolster the push to stay at the top end of League One for the rest of the season.

Schumacher has already been linked with former West Ham United under-23s midfielder Alfie Lewis, who lifted the Irish Cup with St Patrick’s Athletic last month, and there is sure to be plenty more speculation throughout January.

With Brendan Galloway ruled out by a long-term knee injury, a leftsided defender is likely to be high on Schumacher’s wanted list, as well as someone who can play at wing-back.

Adding another central midfielder could be on the cards, too, with Panutche Camara on international duty with Guinea-Bissau at the Africa Cup of Nations this month and Jordan Houghton only a couple of yellow cards away from a twomatch suspension.

And there is also the possibility of a striker being added to the mix, especially if Schumacher decides not to extend the short-term contract of Kieran Agard which will expire soon.

Schumacher said: “Like most clubs really we will be looking to improve where we can. We have a little bit of money left in the budget from the summer.

“There will be some money to bring players in and to help out a squad that is doing magnificently well.
