NEW DELHI: As a letter written by the director-general of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Balram Bhargava “fixing” August 15 as a ‘timeline’ of indigenous COVID-19 vaccine launch surfaced on Friday, it created confusion among country’s researchers and medical fraternities.
At the first instance, the letter dated July 2 turned out to be fictitious as medical experts failed to believe the contents of it that mentioned that in view of “public health emergency” and the “urgency to launch the vaccine”, all the stakeholders are being “strictly advised to fast track all approvals related to the initiation of the clinical trial, and ensure that the subject enrolment is initiated no later than July 7, 2020”.
