THE Department of Health recorded its highest daily case numbers for Covid-19 yesterday amid warnings that the latest surge is likely next week.
There were 26,122 new infections recorded in the 24 hours to midday on Saturday, surpassing the previous pandemic record of 23,817 on January 6.
Last night there were 917 people in hospital, down 19 since Friday, with 83 Covid patients in ICU, down one.
It comes as the Covid-19 adviser to the Irish College of GPs said the surge in the Omicron wave of infection is likely to be next week.
