Dr Scally ‘not sure what is going on’ with inquiry

Public health expert Dr Gabriel Scally yesterday insisted he was not dumped from his CervicalCheck role.

The medic, who led the inquiry into the scandal that erupted when hundreds of women received incorrect smear test results, admitted he is “not entirely sure what is going on”.

But he does not feel like he has been ditched from overseeing and carrying out his report recommendations.

There were rumours on Wednesday he had been “dumped” from the oversight process and the matter was also raised in the Dail.

CervicalCheck campaigner Vicky Phelan, who exposed the scandal in 2018, called on Health Minister Stephen Donnelly to stand up to the Department of Health on Wednesday and reinstate the medic.
