Breaking down the X's and O's

QUARTERBACKS

Eli Manning finished 25-for-38 for 350 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. His first interception was all on Will Tye as Tye simply gave up on his route. But Manning’s second pick, which clinched the game for the Redskins, was absolutely awful. Manning should know better than to pump twice and stick with the same receiver. Why did Eli stop throwing to Odell Beckham Jr., Sterling Shepard and Victor Cruz? He should continue to throw to them until his arm falls off. To lose the game because Manning threw the ball to Tye and Shane Vereen instead of OBJ, Cruz, and Shepard is absolutely unacceptable.

Bottom Line: Lose with what brought you to the dance, Eli. Don’t lose the game because you looked for your fourth and fifth options.

RUNNING BACKS

Shane Vereen had a bad game even though he wound up with 67 yards rushing and 28 yards receiving. He had two fumbles, two drops and seemed uncomfortable all afternoon. After fumbling once in his career until this year, Vereen has fumbled three times in two games. Orleans Darkwa looked solid as he had 10 carries for 53 yards and one touchdown.

Bottom Line: The running game was better but Vereen obviously has to hold onto the ball.
