The Story Of A Couture Maverick
VOGUE India|October 2018

Falguni Peacock is soaring high and scaling new heights as her label, Falguni Shane Peacock (co-owned with her husband Shane), has taken Indian fashion to Hollywood. #LexusLeadingLadies a platform that celebrates women in powerchronicles her meteoric rise.

The Story Of A Couture Maverick
What do India’s millennial brides, Kareena Kapoor and Lady Gaga have in common? They’ve all been dressed by Falguni Peacock, who along with her husband Shane, has changed the fabric of Indian fashion. Her story though, is anything but that of an overnight success.

Born into a family of lawyers, engineers and chartered accountants, her dreams of being a fashion designer were met with scepticism. “In stark contrast with what they wanted me to do, I informed my family about my dreams of becoming one of the most noted fashion designers in the world,” she reminisces. And she did it. Emphatically. Together with her husband Shane, Falguni developed an edgy, avantgarde style that converges international and Indian style sensibilities, giving her creations a universal appeal.

Her first big break was when Harrods London signed her on after the second season of India Fashion Week. Realising that the collections from her studio have a global appeal, she began showcasing them on international platforms. Back then, Indian designers were recognised more for their ethnic creations than for their western designs; but Falguni was determined to change that.

After debuting at L.A. Fashion Week, she went on to create the wardrobe for Fergie’s (the former Black Eyed Peas songstress) performance at the opening night of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Since then, she has dressed Katy Perry, Madonna, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Nicki Minaj and Jennifer Lopez, amongst several other celebrities.
