Glittering India|February 2018

If we look back 50 years from now, we will see that at that time when a woman used to get married with her hubby she used to happily change her surname to that of her husband. This is because; there was a sense of pride of keeping the husband’s surname among the older generation women. But now-a-days the scenario is completely different. Even though, as per research, 65% woman of this generation change their surname after marriage, but majority of them are due to customs and traditions.

Your Surname Says A Lot About Your Hubby

The 21st Century women are independent and love to keep their own surname even after marriage. Thus we are seeing more and more cases of woman of not changing her surname even after marriage. But what effect does this have on the attitude and personalities of one’s husband. Lets discuss.-

Many studies have come up with different outcomes. According to some researches, a lot of husbands feel that their woman is not fully committed towards marriage, when she decides to stuck with her old surname. These people are also worried about the identity of their children i.e. what their children will be called or more precisely what will be their children surname if they decide to part ways.

These days, it is indeed a great of topic of debate and discussion of keeping of one’s husband surname or not.

Today we are living into an era of feminism and the world strongly believes in the equality of power and status of both men and women. Thus, in today’s era keeping the husband’s surname or making forced to keep it due to particular culture and tradition, seems to be sexist and outrages practise and signifies that a woman is not a human being, rather a piece of property which is being handed from her father to husband. On the top of that woman these days are more focused on their career. They work hard day in and day out have a name and a mark in their work industry. They want their brand name to be famous. In such cases, women tend to think that taking their husband name will be somewhat a major setback in their career, as the world will think them to be a dependent person. Thus, now-a-days we can find that changing wife’s surname is no more a matter of simple concern.

Modern day romance The hook up culture

A hook up culture is one of casual dating which may or may not lead to a long term commitment. Messaging and phoning is rampant and to hook up a few conversations gets you into physical intimacy and contact. Talk over a cup of tea makes for a date. Earlier couples used to merit company through the family social circle or a group of friends. Now with the internet boom, social media and Facebook, dating sites have taken over. The individual has become a commodity. A branded site or just an advertisement for various products does the trick. It has become a point of ridicule that dating comes on a mobile app, and true love has indeed become a shopper’s delight. A hook up syndrome has led to a cultural change; just swiping a card and you get a pretty girl to date.
