Actress Adele Silva spoke out last week at the snobbery she has faced as a soap star in auditions. She hasn’t starred in Emmerdale for 10 years but was still told by a casting director that she was “too soapy”. Whatever that means!
I totally relate to what she’s saying. It’s completely unfair but there is a stigma for some reason. It’s frustrating and really unjust.
Soap actors work really hard. They don’t have the luxury of time and they are constantly learning new lines for scripts. They don’t even have time to rehearse before they start a scene.
It’s a relentless job with very long hours. Plus, soaps deal with some really hard-hitting issues, and I think there have been many incredible performances by soap actors.
