Lucy Mecklenburgh’s life couldn’t be further away from her TOWIE days. While it’s just as glam, it comes with a side of nappies, as last March she welcomed beautiful son Roman with fiancé Ryan Thomas.
But the first-time mum hasn’t had an easy ride. Just a couple of days after the birth, Covid sent the country into a national lockdown, so she’s navigated this huge life change without the support of family and friends – something Lucy admits she’s struggled with.
When asked if she suffered from postnatal depression on Instagram recently, she replied, “Maybe. It’s hard to tell with lockdown on top of being a first-time mum. I love Roman more than anything in the world, but I found being a new mum really tough.”
She went on to say, “Sleep deprivation is torture! Then add onto that a global pandemic, a baby with allergies and tongue tie. Lockdown parents deserve a medal!”
We couldn’t agree more, Lucy! So this third lockdown must be tough for the mum. “I’m struggling to stay motivated,” she admitted. “I haven’t prioritised keeping active and eating well myself. I’m surviving off coffee and biscuits lately!”
And this approach is taking its toll on her mental health. The star, who is also the owner of fitness brand Results With Lucy, said, “I feel yuk! Not bothering with workouts or doing my make-up, hair or wearing nice outfits – even just nice loungewear!”
But Lucy knows to give herself a break. “Maybe I need to not be too hard on myself,” she said. “I don’t really sit still. I have a 10 month old, it’s lockdown number three of his life, and my life as a first-time mum.”
