One of the most significant parts of every motorcycle is its frame. It's all too easy to fundamentally underestimate a frame as 'just' a platform to which every other part is directly or indirectly connected. They warrant much more consideration and recognition than that, simply because of their complexity, the forces placed on them, and the fundamental influence they have over a motorcycle's performance. Design of frames has changed hugely over the years, and even today there's a wide variety of different types on the market. Manufacturers have many compromising considerations to make when building a suitable frame for a bike. They include its overall design, dimensions, material it's made from, its stiffness, geometry, size, weight, and not least of all, its cost. Here's a quick guide to help you understand and appreciate them more.

How to maintain your battery
Most riders won't notice that anything is amiss with their battery until they press the ignition switch and their motorcycle fails to start. With a little bit of luck, they might be able to recharge the battery, but that takes time. Should the battery have become deeply discharged, and beyond recovery, then it will need replacing, causing more time lost and unwelcome expense. Often overlooked, battery maintenance is simple and, apart from keeping your battery in top working condition, will also significantly extend its lifespan. What's not to like? MSL asked the battery saving experts at OptiMate to explain the theory behind the practice of battery maintenance.
