Bollywood megastar, fashion icon, certified sexy goofball – Jacqueline Fernandez couldn’t be more amazing. Except when we find out she’s as real as they come
Before you knew Jacqueline Fernandez as, you know, Jacqueline Fernandez, mega Bollywood star, owner of one cool cat called Miu Miu, she was a teenage girl who went to a Catholic convent school in Bahrain, did chores with her siblings, just like the rest of us, and held on to the dream – a rather ridiculous one at the time she tells us – to become an actress some day. And like thousands of youngsters who move their lives to Mumbai to make it in Bollywood, so did Fernandez, but for a completely different reason altogether. “I knew I wanted to be an actress but it didn’t even occur to me that Bollywood would be accepting of foreign actresses, because it’s a Hindi medium. So, when I first moved here, I wanted to model and make money through that. But then things changed because of a growing dubbing culture, and I realised that I might just be able to fulfil my dream after all. And I got very lucky because Sujoy [Ghosh] spotted me early on and asked me to play Jasmine in Aladin.”
