Aug. 15, 1969—day one of the legendary Woodstock music festival—marked the start of a weekend to remember for hundreds of thousands of music fans. But for Judy and Jerry Griffin—who had no idea their paths were about to cross—it was also the beginning of a lifetime together. Judy and two acquaintances were headed for Woodstock that day, driving up from her home in Manhattan, when her car broke down on New York’s Tappan Zee Bridge, roughly 90 miles from the concert grounds. “I was just thinking, ‘Damn, now we can’t go,’ and we were dying to,” recalls Judy. “Then Jerry and his friends pulled up, and I decided, ‘Well, if I was going to go, I had to get in the car.’ ”
