FOR AS LONG AS EVA JORGENSEN can remember, her mother regaled her with childhood stories from France. In 1969, Eva’s grandfather’s company relocated the family to Versailles, a suburb just outside of Paris. They inevitably fell in love with the country and stayed on for nearly a decade. Her mother’s formative years in France fundamentally informed Eva’s too. “These were my bedtime stories about what school, food, and life was like there,” she says. “Hearing all of those stories influenced me.”
