लाहौर निवासी भाई सुजान एक अच्छे वैद्य थे। वे लोगों का उपचार तो करते पर उनका मन अशांत और बेचैन रहता था। मन की शांति कैसे मिले इसका वे चिंतन करते रहते थे। आत्मशांति की इसी खोज ने उन्हें आनंदपुर साहिब गुरु गोविंदसिंहजी के दरबार में पहुँचा दिया। सुजानजी ने दर्शन कर मत्था टेका तो बड़ी शांति, तृप्ति मिली। उन्होंने उसी क्षण मन-ही-मन गुरु गोविंदसिंहजी को गुरु मान लिया और सोचा कि अब इन्हींके चरणों में रहूँगा।'
