Desh 2 December 2020 issue pays tribute to Soumitra Chattopadhyay, the actor who seamlessly bridged the gap between stardust and reality in Bengali cinema, who was also an accomplished thespian, poet, orator and painter— a Renaissance man and a Bengali cultural icon. It comprises essays and memoirs by Sudhir Chakraborty, Sanjay Mukhopadhyay, Bratya Basu, Sekhar Samaddar and Payel Sengupta. There is an essay on the eminent poet, scholar and translator Alokeranjan Dasgupta, by Joy Goswami. Smaranjit Chakraborty and Subhashis Chakraborty have written on Diego Maradona, the legend who transcended football and became a figure of hope for the oppressed. The issue also carries other regular sections like the serialized nonfiction ‘Naxalbarinama’ by Ashim Chattopadhyay, the serialized novels ‘Prabhu Amar Priyo by Nirmalya Mukhopadhyay and ‘Maanchitre Taar Naam Nei’ by Maitree Roy Moulik, ‘Jiban Jerakam’ by Sumit Mitra, Mantabya, Granthalok, Shilpo Sanskriti, Galpo, Chithipatra, Seshkatha etc.
