EAN Bowen showed off his champion jockey trophy at Worcester on Monday and then demonstrated just why it will be so difficult for his rivals to prise it from him.
The Pembrokeshire native was crowned champion last season and is setting a relentless pace in his bid to win it again - something that was underlined at Worcester, where he rode a treble.
He might have thought he was in for a frustrating afternoon following his first two mounts, which finished second and third, but then Caelan did the business in the 2m maiden hurdle.
Trained by Olly Murphy, whom Bowen has most of his winners for, Caelan had been well held on his two previous starts over hurdles but showed improved form in a hood, settling in midfield before making headway and keeping on readily to win at 5-1.
Next up for Bowen was Mr McLoughlan for Jack Jones in the second division of the race.
