QC joins global initiative vs extreme heat

Quezon City has co-founded a global network of cities committed to take urgent and coordinated action to address extreme heat caused by the climate crisis.

As part of efforts to promote climate action, the local government became one of the 33 founding members of the C40 Cities Cool Cities Accelerator, an initiative that provides “practical, science-based framework for cities to collaborate in addressing” extreme heat.

“Extreme heat greatly affects our communities, livelihood and overall way of living. It affected schools and the production of urban farms and put residents at risk of heat-related illnesses,” Mayor Joy Belmonte said in a statement over the weekend.

“Being part of this movement will help us develop programs to become heat-resilient, protecting all our residents, including those who belong to the most vulnerable populations,” Belmonte added.
