Mizoram's capital set to get first railway link
The New Indian Express Thiruvananthapuram
|September 08, 2025
MIZORAM is all set to become the fourth state in the Northeast to have direct railway connectivity to its capital, with the completion of the 51.38 km Bairabi-Sairang broad-gauge line.
The project, which forms part of Indian Railways' ambitious plan to link all eight Northeastern states to the national rail network, is poised to transform connectivity in the region.
The new rail line, to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will connect Bairabi on the Assam-Mizoram border to Sairang, located just 20 km from Aizawl and 12 km from Lengpui airport. The newly built Sairang railway station will serve as the key railhead for Aizawl, providing enhanced accessibility to the state.
