General insurance industry likely to report 13% premium growth in FY26

April 08, 2025

THE general insurance industry is likely to post a healthy 13% premium growth in the current financial year (FY26), much better than the 8.5% in FY25 and 12.8% in FY24, led by standalone health players and other private sector players.

- ENS ECONOMIC BUREAU @ Mumbai

According to a report by India Ratings, public sector players will continue to lag their private sector peers due to the various constraints they face.

Gross written premium growth in terms of value will be a larger contributor than new policyholder additions for the sector because of the rising inflationary pressure, along with hardening of reinsurance rates, will aid value growth, whereas affordability, product innovation and reach would drive volume growth, the agency said Monday.
