FAMILY members of a former army jawan who died in the India-Pakistan war staged a demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office in Kolar on Saturday along with the mortal remains of Shanthamma — the widow of ex-serviceman Kenchappa Sommanna — to demand ownership of land allotted under ex-servicemen benefits.

The family, residents of Parandahalli in KGF, alleged that despite repeated appeals over the years, the revenue department has failed to issue the title deed for the land allotted to late Kenchappa. Shanthamma's son, Prakash, said the family has been in possession of the land for years but has been denied the official title.
