Cong: Previous BJP Govt Burdened Consumers With KPCL Pension Costs

DAKSHINA Kannada District Congress President K. Harish Kumar and former MLA J.R. Lobo have accused the previous BJP government of shifting the financial burden of pension and gratuity payments for Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL) employees onto electricity consumers, leading to the recent hike in domestic power bills.
Addressing a joint press conference in response to the BJP's protests against the power tariff hike, the Congress leaders countered the BJP's narrative by pointing to official documents issued during its tenure. They alleged that the BJP government, through orders dated November 15 and 22, 2022, had formally directed that the pension and gratuity dues of over 39,000 eligible KPCL employees be recovered from consumers, instead of being paid by the state government.
