A POLITICAL controversy has erupted following the arrest of P K Bujair, the younger brother of prominent Youth League leader P K Firoz, for allegedly assaulting a police officer.
The incident, which took place on Saturday evening, has triggered a war of words between the ruling and Opposition parties, with calls for Firoz's resignation as Youth League's state general secretary.
Bujair, 35, who hails from Pathimangalam, was taken into custody on Sunday after a scuffle with officers near the Choolaamvazhal bus stop. Police had arrived at the location on Saturday evening, acting on a tip-off regarding a suspected narcotics deal.
