Court is told OAP was 'wrecked' after 'assault'

THE friend of a pensioner alleged to have been murdered by his neighbour has said he was “wrecked” after he was assaulted in his own home.

David Hill, 57, of South Cross Road, Huddersfield, is standing trial at Leeds Crown Court accused of the murder of Kurt Giwisser, 77, in 2023.

Mr Hill was first arrested on suspicion of assault and was then arrested on suspicion of murder following Kurt's death in April 2023.

Kurt had allegedly been assaulted by Mr Hill on February 21 that same year and was taken to hospital for treatment for head injuries.

He was treated and discharged but later required further medical attention and lost his life.

Yesterday, Kurt's friend, Peter Highway, told the court he had known Kurt since he was nine years old and the pair met twice a week at his home.

He said following the alleged assault, he would visit Kurt instead.
