PARAMEDIC REFUSED SPECIFIC NHS BRAIN TUMOUR TREATMENT 'GRATEFUL' TO FUNDRAISERS FOR ALMOST £13K

- By SUE KIRBY

'I am eternally grateful for every single person who has donated'

A YOUNG paramedic being denied NHS funding for a specialist brain tumour treatment says she is 'eternally grateful' to generous fundraisers who are helping raise cash to pay for it.

Newlywed Hannah Lemanski, 24, was denied gamma knife radiotherapy which could prevent her having to undergo a second operation.

But, through generous donations £12,750 has already been pledged to a fundraising page set up by her friend.

Despite her consultants at James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, recommending Hannah Lemanski have gamma knife radiotherapy, she was refused because her type of tumour is not on the NHS England approved list.

And, in a second blow, Hannah, said her consultant's application for individual funding for her case has now been turned down, after two months of awaiting a decision.

She said: "This outcome has only deepened my sense of frustration and reinforced feelings of being treated unfairly within the NHS system.

"I have asked for more detailed reasoning behind the decision but have only been told that a formal report will be provided 'in due course' an unfortunately vague time frame."
