Exorcism turns into torture for Kottayam woman

A chilling sequence of events unfolded in Manarkad, Kottayam, when a 24-year-old woman became the victim of a horrific exorcism, stemming from unfounded accusations of possession.

The harrowing ordeal, which lasted for over 10 hours, left the woman physically and emotionally scarred, with police now investigating the case.

The woman, whose identity has been protected, had been living with her partner, Akhil, at his home when the exorcism took place last Sunday. According to the woman, the torment began shortly after the death of her maternal aunt, which allegedly led to her being accused of harbouring her deceased aunt's spirit.

Her partner's family, including his mother, believed that she had become possessed and started calling a sorcerer to perform what would eventually become an agonising and prolonged exorcism.
