Adom sparkles as Heed take well-deserved draw

ALUN Armstrong was delighted with the ‘great character’ shown by his Gateshead players as they claimed a hard-earned point at Wealdstone.

- with MARK CARRUTHERS

There was major disappointment for the Heed as a lacklustre display led to a fully deserved 2-0 home defeat against Altrincham ten days earlier, and that disappointment turned to anger when they slumped to a 5-0 hammering at Woking last weekend.

Armstrong’s men made the worst possible start on Saturday when Dom Hutchinson put the Stones in front on three minutes as he charged down a clearance from Gateshead keeper George Shelvey.

That lead remained in place until first-half injury-time as Kain Adom got Gateshead back on level terms, and the former Welling winger appeared to have put his side on their way to a fine win when he doubled his tally with just ten minutes remaining.
