Siyabonga Nhlapo is part of a small group of players who have a club to play for in the top-flight even after the age of 35.

These days, only a few players get an opportunity to play in the Betway Premiership after the age of 35 and the list could grow smaller in years to come. Nhlapo has been a professional for 16 seasons, and he has displayed the type of discipline and consistency that has seen him play for the likes of Bidvest Wits and SuperSport United, as well as Bafana Bafana. But were it not for the start he got at Jomo Cosmos, he may not have made it this far. In this interview with Soccer Laduma’s Tshepang Mailwane, the 36-year-old Marumo Gallants defender talks about the role Jomo Sono played in his career and why he believes Betway Premiership clubs are allowing young players to undermine experienced players who still have much to offer.

Tshepang Mailwane: Hola Siya, you've been in the game for 16 seasons with more than 300 appearances as a professional footballer. How does that make you feel?

Adams faces race against time

Jayden Adams' international future hangs in the balance, and the countdown has officially begun. With just one month remaining before Hugo Broos finalises his squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, the 24-year-old midfielder finds himself in a position few would have predicted two years ago. Once a rising star of Stellenbosch FC and a standout performer at the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast, Adams now faces the harsh reality of reduced game time at Mamelodi Sundowns and uncertainty around his Bafana Bafana role. The player who earned his way into Broos' plans through hard work and consistency has slipped into unfamiliar territory at club level, and his national team prospects have dimmed as a result. The Siya crew has been tracking his situation closely, uncovering worrying signs behind the scenes as Adams fights to keep his AFCON dream alive.
