Rapist jailed for terrifying street attack on young doctor

A SEX predator convicted of raping a doctor in a late-night attack has been jailed for nine years.
Captured... Patran caught on CCTV close to scene of rape in Mitchell Street. Police were called after he flashed at woman on train, inset
Mihai Nicolae Patran pounced on the 27-year-old stranger as she walked in Glasgow's Mitchell Street in the early hours of November 26, 2023.
The traumatised victim eventually escaped naked from the waist down to the safety of a taxi.
Patran was later arrested - and went on to perform a sex act on himself while sitting in the dock during his first court appearance.
The 34-year-old Romanian first offender was yesterday sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow. He had been found guilty of the crimes following a trial last month.
Judge Norman McFadyen told Patran: “You are a dangerous man and a danger to women. It is hoped you will be deported or removed from the country at the earliest opportunity.”
He said that if “for whatever reason” Patran was not deported at the end of his sentence, he would present a “clear risk to the public’. As a result, Patran will be supervised for three years on any release.
The doctor recalled her ordeal from behind screens at the trial last month.
She had not long moved to the city to start work prior to the attack.
