Chiefs could face 'stark choices' over care cuts

Vulnerable residents in East Renfrewshire could face significant cuts to their care, as health chiefs warn of stark choices ahead due to a "perfect storm".
Councillors have delayed making a decision on controversial new charges for nonresidential social care -but senior officials say dropping the plan could have even more severe consequences.
One option under consideration to balance the books would be a move to critical care only, which could see people no longer receive help with washing or going to the toilet.
Community alarm charges could more than double in price and grants to the voluntary sector are also at risk.
The warning from bosses at East Renfrewshire's Health and Social Care partnership (HSCP) comes before a council meeting on December 10, when charging for nonresidential social care will be on the agenda again.
It has also been issued amid an estimated £27m funding gap for health and social care over the next four years.
