MALMO ARE BEATEN AGAIN, BUT FANS LEAVE IMPRESSED WITH NOTTINGHAM HOSPITALITY
IT’S perhaps not the first Nottingham pub that springs to mind for a rowdy pre-match pint, but some pretty vocal football chants were ringing around the walls of Ye Olde Trip To Jerusalem on Thursday night.
The chants were coming from neither Reds nor Pies fans - but from Swedes.
Malmö FF were up against Nottingham Forest in a crucial Europa League fixture at the City Ground and around 1,000 dedicated fans made the journey from Sweden for the match.
Among those in the Trip was Magnus Larsson, who was heading to the stadium with his 19-year-old son, Melwin Svärd.
Mr Larsson, from Malmö, landed at Manchester Airport earlier on Thursday before heading to Nottingham on a hired bus with around 70 other fans.
"I've never been to Nottingham before, but we were told this was the best pub here", Mr Larsson said.
"The people here are so friendly and I think your people are more hospitable than the Swedish."
The key back story to Thursday night's fixture was the famous European Cup final of 1979, when Forest defeated Malmö 1-0 to become European champions for the first time.
