THE White Hart Hotel isn’t just a place to grab a pint, it’s a cornerstone of the community, where regulars can come in out of the cold for support and a sense of belonging.

Landlords mark 20 years at helm of hostelry which is a 'cornerstone of the community'

For Jon Hutchings, 50, the pub's owner, running The White Hart is a lifelong commitment to the town he loves.

Jon’s journey with The White Hart began in 1982 when his parents bought it. Although he left to serve in the Royal Navy for 12 years, Jon's connection never faded.

In 2004, he returned with his wife to help his parents run the business, and by 2005 they had taken over ownership themselves. This year marks 20 years at the helm, a milestone that Jon is very proud of.

"For a pub these days, that’s a great achievement", Jon said. “Five years ago they told me to close the pub, I didn’t think I'd be here after coronavirus, but five years later, we're still here.”

At The White Hart, the bond between the pub and the locals goes far beyond a few drinks. Jon and his team have worked hard to create a space that caters to everyone.

The pub holds charity events, provides meeting spaces for local groups and has been involved in projects like the Holsworthy Mutual Aid, which Jon helped establish during the pandemic and continues to support today.

“We support people, and they support us”, Jon explained.

He is a trustee of the Holsworthy Memorial Hall and has been a dedicated member of the Holsworthy Council for 15 years.

He also served as the mayor of Holsworthy for three years and plays a key role in organising the town’s beloved St Peter's Fair.

“It keeps me busy, but that’s the way I like it.” Jon said.
