SC MAKES JUDGES' ASSET DECLARATIONS PUBLIC, POSTS DETAILS ON WEBSITE

NEW DELHI: In a move towards greater transparency, the Supreme Court has published the asset declarations of its judges on the official website. This decision, taken by the full court on April 1, was implemented this week, making available the financial details of 21 out of the 33 sitting judges.

A statement from the top court said, "The full court of the Supreme Court of India has on April 1, 2025, decided that the statements of assets of the judges of this court shall be placed in the public domain by uploading the same on the website of this court." It added that the declarations already received had been uploaded, with more to follow as submissions come in.

Among the judges who disclosed their assets is Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna, who is set to retire on May 13. His declaration lists a fixed deposit of Rs 55.75 lakh, a three-bedroom flat allotted by the Delhi Development Authority in south Delhi, and a four-bedroom apartment measuring 2,446 square feet in the Commonwealth Games Village.

Additionally, he holds a 56 percent stake in a four-bedroom flat in Sispal Vihar, Gurugram, and shares ownership of a property in Dalhousie, Himachal Pradesh.
