Fadnavis, Bawankule in BJP's first list of 99 nominees for Maharashtra polls

MUMBAI: Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is among the heavyweight names in the BJP's first list of candidates for the November 20 Maharashtra Assembly polls. The first list, announced on Sunday, has 99 names with the BJP retaining 71 sitting MLAs and dropping three.
The party has also fielded kin of some regional satraps including Congress-turned-BJP politician Ashok Chavan's daughter. The list also includes 13 women candidates. Maharashtra Assembly has 288 seats and the BJP is likely to contest nearly 160. The remaining seats are being contested by its allies Shiv Sena and the Ajit Pawar-led NCP. Most of the candidates are from the OBC, Maratha and Adivasi communities which forms the traditional vote bank of BJP.
