MERSEYSIDE COMMISSIONER FEARS ‘ACCOUNTABILITY VACUUM'
MERSEYSIDE'S police and crime commissioner (PCC) said she is “deeply disappointed” by the government's decision to scrap the role, adding it “risks creating a dangerous accountability vacuum’
The sometimes controversial system of police and crime commissioners is to be abolished by the Labour government, as first reported by the Guardian.
The role was introduced by the Conservatives in 2012 and meant all 43 police forces covering local areas across England and Wales had to answer to an elected official. The system was introduced to boost accountability and performance of police forces.
