Burke arrest-bid gardai sent packing for 2nd time from family house

- BY NICOLA DONNELLY

SACKED Enoch Burke was nowhere to be seen yesterday as gardai went looking for him to take him to jail.

After turning up for over three years at his school protest, the teacher was noticeably absent from the gates of Wilson's Hospital School in Westmeath.

There were also dramatic scenes at Mr Burke's home after gardai showed up but were twice sent packing empty-handed after they sought to execute a High Court-issued committal warrant for his arrest.

The warrant, authorised earlier this week, directed officers to detain Mr Burke for alleged ongoing noncompliance with a court order.

The drama unfolded on Wednesday night when four gardai approached the family property in Castlebar, Co Mayo, and made enquiries to Enoch’s dad Sean regarding his son's whereabouts.

Earlier that day, three officers arrived at the home in a bid to execute the committal warrant but were forced to leave after a female remonstrated with them and did not say where he was.
