Dad damaged council home with his lit cig

A “HOUSE-proud” cigarette smoker caused extensive damage to his council home when he tossed a lit cigarette near a leaky petrol can, a court has heard.

Judge Kenneth Connolly said he was “perplexed” at how the local authority did up the house and gave the keys back to George Hersee, who started a fire following a drunken row and a horse racing outing.
