A WIDELY respected retired garda and former GAA star - a man honoured for his bravery in service and immortalised in the official history of his hurling club - has died.
Former Garda Sergeant James (Jim) Cannon, late of Raherneen, Killtullagh, Co Galway, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family at the Midlands Regional Hospital Tullamore on Monday.
