'It's time to give Hull the recognition it deserves'

MP CALLS FOR OUR CITY'S WARTIME STORY TO BE TOLD

A HULL MP has called for greater “national awareness” of Hull's experience during the Second World War amidst the 80th anniversary of VE Day.

MP for Hull North and Cottingham, Labour's Dame Diana Johnson, has written to the Chief Executive and Keeper of The National Archives, Saul Edward Nassé, asking for information on a report dated to 1942 that details the effects of bombing raids on Hull and its people.

In her letter Dame Diana explains that the report, by Solly Zuckerman and J.D. Bernal, had initially been embargoed until 2020 but has now, she understands, had its embargo extended indefinitely.

Dame Diana says that the release of the report “would reveal more about what the research into the effects of aerial bombing finally concluded and how Hull's wartime bombing came to be represented in the public domain.”
