30 women injured during protest in Manipur, curfew imposed in Imphal

IMPHAL/GUWAHATI: At least 30 women were injured as personnel of central security forces, especially the Rapid Action Force (RAF), fired tear gas shells to disperse protesters who pelted stones on them in Bishnupur district of strife-torn Manipur on Thursday, officials familiar with the matter said

The incident took place at Phougakchao Ikhai Makha Leikai area around 1 pm when a large group of women tried to pass the barricade put up by army and RAF personnel, confronting security forces while demanding they be allowed to go to Kangvai along Imphal-Churachandpur road, officials added.
The women were opposing the proposed mass burial of Kuki-Zomi people killed in ethnic violence, at Torbung Bangla in Churachandpur district bordering Bishnupur, officials said.
