SCAM CENTRES SET EYES ON INDIA AMID CHINA CRACKDOWN: U.S. BODY REPORT
Hindustan Times Delhi
|November 21, 2025
A report submitted by an independent American commission to the United States Congress finds that Chinese crackdowns on major scam centres in Southeast Asia—who were luring Chinese citizens to work for them fraudulently — have led these groups to shift focus to English-language speakers in India.
These centres now target Indians by luring them to Southeast Asian countries like Laos using false employment opportunities, the report by the US-China Economic and Security Review Commission finds. It also spotlights Indian concerns about China's plans to expand hydroelectric projects on the Brahmaputra river.
