Rohl admits he needs backing in January to improve his ailing squad

The Ibrox boss was left stunned this week when Gers chairman Andrew Cavenagh sacked sporting director Kevin Thelwell and CEO Patrick Stewart in the wake of the club's dismal start to the season.

The duo paid the price for the disastrous appointment of Russell Martin and failed £40million summer squad revamp. Now it will be left to Rohl to oversee January's push for new recruits, albeit the German admits he'll need back-up while he balances this new task with his day job of coaching.

Rohl would have been delighted to hear prized asset Nico Raskin hinting yesterday he could extend his stay at Ibrox.

Cavenagh has assured the former Sheffield Wednesday boss he'll be on hand to offer support, while Thelwell's son Robbie plus his former Everton acolytes Dan Purdy and Nathan Fisher remain on the payroll for now.

San Francisco 49ers advisor Gretar Steinsson will also offer advice.

Responding to the surprise dismissals, Rohl said: "It's not nice when some people around you get sacked.
