Anger over gushing tribute by boss who sacked Steve Wright

BBC Radio 2 chief Helen Thomas has sparked outrage with a glowing tribute to Steve Wright months after she fired the DJ from his afternoon slot.

The executive was responsible for axing the legendary broadcaster's hit show after 24 years.

She also dispensed with favourites Ken Bruce and Paul O'Grady.

Yet Ms Thomas still insisted on releasing a personal tribute, leading one source to say: "She should have just kept her mouth shut, it's shameless."

Fans of the DJ, who presented on air for over four decades, also went online to blast his boss, who critics claim drove millions of listeners to desert the station.
