Carrow Road victory felt more than just three points for City

As Gerhard Struber made his way on to the pitch after the full-time whistle had confirmed Bristol City's win over Norwich City, he applauded the travelling fans packed into the corner of the ground, before waving a fist in their direction. At the same time, the man he replaced in the dugout, Liam Manning, shook the hands of both his current and former players while the home supporters voiced their frustrations.

In a game where only a single goal separated the sides, the mood in the camps come full-time couldn't have been much more opposed. This felt like a big game for both teams as they looked to end their respective winless streaks immediately after the international break, and for periods, it seemed like it could go either way.

Buoyed by the atmosphere created by their away supporters, City started on the front foot. Scott Twine saw an early penalty appeal turned down, before hitting the side-netting and unleashing Neto Borges to strike the post. In response, the Canaries, looked to get Josh Sargent in behind and came close when Oscar Schwartau headed wide. At the break, neither side had edged ahead.

The second half followed a similar pattern. The Robins threatened in transition and caused problems with their press, but Radek Vitek needed to be alert at the other end. Then, with 73 minutes on the clock, an Anis Mehmeti cross was flicked towards the back post, and having found himself in plenty of space, Mark Sykes turned home his first goal of the season to kick-start the pandemonium in the away end, and the boos of the home support.
