Malinin soars to second straight men's world title in Boston

The 20-year-old, known as the "Quad God," had teased the prospect of seven quadruple jumps in the free skate, but even though he landed one of them it was a sparkling performance at a packed TD Garden -- where his final score of 318.56 point put him 31.09 points clear of silver medalist Mikhail Shaidorov of Kazakhstan.

Malinin, the only skater to complete a quadruple Axel in competition, landed all six types of quadruples, adding a quad flip, quad Lutz, quad Salchow, a quad toe loop and the quad loop that had been giving him trouble.

"I was definitely proud because I finally got this one done," Malinin said, who earned 208.15 for his free skate. "It was OK.
