Diabetics face higher risk of retinopathy, glaucoma, cataract

Doctors are more worried about related, dangerous diseases. They note 10% of these patients are already affected with diabetic retinopathy, and 30% more are prone to suffer from it if not diagnosed and treated timely.

'Young patients don’t realise'
Chair of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) South-East Asia (SEA) region, Dr Banshi Saboo said, “The national prevalence of diabetes among adults (aged 20 years and above) is approximately 11.4%; in urban areas of Gujarat, like in Ahmedabad, it’s 15 to 18% and in the rural region it’s 10-12%.”
